In July 2007, six people left their homes and traveled to Tanzania, East Africa, to visit their friend Billy Bludgus.  The goal of the visit was to raise funds for the House of Blue Hope orphanage project in Mabibo.  The group climbed Mt. Kilamanjaro, the highest point on the African continent.  Through sponsors and donations, the climb raised more than $20,000.  The group included Greg Garguilo, New Jersey; Scott Sadowski and Joe Fernandez, New York; Adam Weise, Florida; Philip Pauly and Judith Scholte, Cologne, Germany; and Bludgus.

“Good Times for a Good Cause” was held on November 10, 2007. The event was held at Philadelphia at McGillicuddy’s in Manayunk. Tickets to the event were sold to raise funds for the House of Blue Hope Orphanage Project. Guests from Boston, New York, New Jersey, and the greater Philadelphia area were present to show their support for Nyumba Ya Blue Hope. With a turnout of about 90 people, we were able to raise $1,270.

Other Events

Ten people from Germany, the USA, Bangladesh, and England came together to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro.  On December 29, they started their 7 day hike supported by the employees of Summits Africa.  Amazed by the different vegetation zones they came through, with landscapes ranging from astonishing beauty to surreal science fiction backgrounds, they made their way towards the top not minding sickness and fatigue.  After five and a half days of hiking, and an exhausting final assent, they finally reached the top at sunrise of January 3rd.  The entire experience was truly unforgettable, and we hoope that we managed to raise some more money to finalize the construction of the House of Blue Hope.
